Myeongdong Cathedral, or the full name of the Cathedral Church of Virgin Mary of the Immaculate Conception, is the main Catholic temple in Seoul and one of the main attractions of the capital of South Korea. The cathedral was built in 1898 in neo-gothic style of red brick and gray stone, becoming the tallest building in the city at that time. The height of the cathedral is 23 meters, and its height together with the spire is 45 meters. The facade of the building is decorated with luxurious stained glass windows depicting the Birth of Jesus. The church is the cathedral of the Archdiocese of Seoul, and in 1977 the cathedral was listed as a National Historic Landmark of South Korea. Myeongdong Cathedral is located on the popular Myeongdong Shopping Street in Seoul Downtown, north of Namsan Mountain and YTN Seoul Tower.
