Guadalajara is a city and capital of the Mexican state of Jalisco. It’s the area is 150 km², it is home to about 1.4 million people. Guadalajara together with neighboring cities forms the Guadalajara metropolitan area, the second most populous metropolitan area in Mexico with a population of more than 5 million. The city is located on the Atemajac Valley in the center of the state of Jalisco, 300 km east of the popular resort of Puerto Vallarta. Guadalajara is one of the most important economic, tourist and transport centers in southwestern Mexico, as well as the cultural capital of the whole of Mexico. The Guadalajara metropolitan area is the third most important economic center in Mexico after Mexico City and Monterrey. The city has a developed textile, footwear, food and automotive industries, as well as factories of such high-tech companies as General Electric, Intel, Hitachi, Hewlett Packard, Siemens AG and others. Guadalajara has a humid subtropical climate with hot humid summers and warm dry winters. The city was founded in 1542 and has many picturesque old buildings of the colonial era and a large number of Baroque churches.
