Larnaca is the third-largest city in Cyprus after Nicosia (the capital of Cyprus) and Limassol, a largest seaport, as well as one of the most popular tourist resorts in the Republic of Cyprus. Larnaca is located on the southeastern coast of Cyprus Island, on the western coast of the Larnaca Bay of the Mediterranean Sea, 71 km (44 mi) east of Limassol and 58 km (36 mi) southeast of Nicosia. Its area is 31.73 km², it is home to more than 51,000 people. The main attractions of Larnaca include: Church of St. Lazarus, was built in the 9th century by Emperor Leo VI, Agios Lazaros Church, Pierides Archaeological Foundation Museum, Archaeological Museum, Larnaca Fort, Kamares Aqueduct, Turkish Quarter, Stavrovouni Monastery, Church of Archangel Michael, Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque (the fourth most important shrine in the Islamic world). A lot of restaurants, bars, cafes, nightclubs, shops, and various hotels is located in Larnaca. The resort city is well known for its excellent sandy beaches. Larnaca International Airport (IATA: LCA, ICAO: LCLK) is located 4 km (2.5 mi) southwest of Larnaca and is the main and most busiest airport in Cyprus.
